Procedure
The objective of porcelain veneers is to envelop the front part
of your problematic teeth using a slim coating of porcelain. Because
of this, they can be used to modify any spaces between teeth as
well hide any discoloration. You will have to visit Dr. Lopez’s
office at least 3 times to complete the whole treatment.
During your first visit, Dr. Lopez will proceed to evaluate
your condition and he will be able to decide which dental procedure
is the best solution for you. If porcelain veneers are your solution,
then you will be good to go.
On your second visit, the preparation for the placement of your
veneers will commence. Dr. Lopez will remove the upper layer of
your enamel, which is a procedure which isn’t painful at
all; however, if you feel any discomfort, local anesthesia may
be applied. After finishing this phase successfully, a cast of
your teeth will be made so that our highly specialized lab can
manufacture the veneers according to your precise needs.
Since the lab usually takes a couple of weeks in making the
veneers, you will have to extremely careful with your teeth during
your wait. Given that the enamel has been taken off, they are
vulnerable against stains so make sure you brush them regularly.
During your last visit, Dr. Lopez will place your veneers momentarily
over your teeth; this way, you will be able to see exactly what
your smile will look like and can express your opinion concerning
its appearance. If there’s anything you don’t like,
don’t hesitate in saying so; Dr. Lopez will make any necessary
modifications (in shape and color) until you are satisfied with
the results. Once your new smile is pleasing to your standards,
the veneers will be bonded (using bonding cement); this is then
hardened through a curing process (utilizing blue light) making
strengthening the veneers and making
then as sturdy as normal
teeth.
They will feel completely natural once they are in place but
you must keep in mind that you must take special care of them.
Veneers aren’t imperishable, so you must avoid biting down
on any hard substances or grinding your teeth since this may cause
them to deteriorate at a high rate. You must remember that if
you do not care for your veneers, this can lead to certain problems
such as gum disease.
